I’ve heard that this is what golf stands for, but does it really? I think the word has origins from other languages, am I correct in thinking so? I’m not too keen on the sport, just wondering.
Once again this tired old urban legend pops its head out. No it does not stand for anything……It is simply the name of the game.

Backspin is a result of the club face compressing the ball in to the ground, when the ball releases, it rolls up the club face and the grooves in the club face catches the ball and makes it spin.
To achieve this, you first need to have clean and fairly new grooves on your club face. On your down swing, make sure you hit the ball first and continue the down swing to take a divot. The path of the club face has to be down and forward, pressing the ball into the ground and continue forward, which will result in a longer divot from deep to shallow.
By the way, the more lofted the club, the more you can spin the ball.
