  1. William Stringer Said,

This is more of a “booklet” than a book for the Kindle. The Publisher’s Name “Rinky Dink Press” says volumes about what to expect. Supposedly this “book” is intended to cover the basics of golf for the beginner; which is obviously a noble pursuit. Golf can be daunting for the beginner considering the vast amount of information to assimilate, the complexity of the game, the biomechanics of the swing, the various types of equipment, innumerable courses and weather conditions, and of course, the amount of terminology and golf speak that is used in some books. It is a Kindle download and purports to cover the basics of how to putt, drive, buy equipment, hire a golf pro, conduct yourself on the course, practice, and understand the design of golf courses, including the types of grasses. It is written hastily written with very little editing and many grammatical and semantic errors. It is superficial to a fault with very little real information that you wouldn’t learn in about a hour by walking onto almost any local course and talking to one of their staff or patrons. Further, it reads like a hastily performed project for an English as a Second Language course. Don’t but it!! It is short on real advice, hard to read, virtually unintelligible, and certainly not helpful for the beginning golfer. Perhaps the most laughable chapter (since I am a physician) was the “What do doctors have to say about golf.” chapter. It presents some pseudoscience about the difference in lipids between people who walk the course, compared to people who use golf carts. I am a great proponent of walking, however, the chapter doesn’t even give the reference of the article to which it refers to allow the reader to judge for themselves. Consider other offerings for the Kindle written by real experts with eloquence and finesse, like Jack Nicklaus “Golf My Way” or Hank Haney’s “Hank Haney’s Essentials of the Swing”. It will be money better spent on your Kindle!!!
